About Saginaw Valley State University

Saginaw Valley State University, or SVSU for short, is a state university, with the official address at University Center, which is a locale in Bay and Saginaw counties, in Michigan, USA. The university was established in November, 1963, fact which makes it the youngest educational institution among the state's 15 public colleges and universities.


SVSU currently has a total enrollment estimated at a number of more than 10 000 students, most of which are undergraduates, and offers various educational programs, in numerous fields of study, through 5 academic colleges: College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences, College of Business and Management, College of Education, Crystal M. Lange College of Health and Human Services and College of Science, Engineering and Technology.


Athletics

Saginaw Valley State's athletic teams are known as The Cardinals, who compete in 16 varsity sports, for both men and women, in NCAA Division II, in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Cardinals have won numerous championships, over the years, in many of the sport in which they compete, including 2 in men's indoor track and field (NAIA), in '82 and '83, and 4 in men's bowling (USBC Collegiate), in '91, '97, 2006 and 2007, and they have also been national runner-up, in women's basketball (NAIA Division I), in '85, to name a few of their most notable achievements.


The distinctive colors of The Cardinals are red and blue.

Among SVSU's noteworthy alumni, there are: congressman Bart Stupak, former Buffalo Bills linebacker Eugene Marve, NASA Flight Director Anthony J. Ceccacci, Mensa International Grant Recipient Eli W. Adams, Professional Tenpin Bowler Bill O'Neill, and South Indian film actress, Meera Chopra.
